High Heel Heaven with Louboutin – Which heel height should I go for?
Now, I like my heels eye wateringly high. But where should you start? I’m here to help with High Heel Hierarchy’s guide to everything you need to know about Christian Louboutin’s magical world of heel height. I’m also sharing some of my absolute favourites which are all available to buy now from our coveted, luxury preloved designer shoe collection.
Need to lose 10lbs for a party and left it too late? Buy some new shoes instead.
High heels lengthen your silhouette, shape your legs and make you stand tall, you’ll instantly look slimmer and not have to forego your Sav Blanc – you’re welcome.
Heel guide – what to wear, where and when?
First things first. Size Matters.
If you’re not used to wearing heels, start with a pair with a thicker heel or a platform. You’ll find them sturdier and far more stable. Do you see how I didn’t mention height there? Mostly, it’s the structure of the shoe rather than the heel height which denotes how easily one can go about one’s daily business in a pair of luscious Loubs.
Number two – Most of us can’t step into a pair of So Kate’s and trot off into the night. Practice, practice, practice. Walk in your new heels at home – strike a pose in them while you’re loading the dishwasher. You’ll thank me later.
Third and finally – go slow. As Christian Louboutin says: ‘Don’t reject a shoe because you can’t run in it. It’s ok not to run.’ The man is a genius. Walking slowly, and with purpose makes you look more confident. Give your adoring public a chance to admire those designer babies. Take your time – you’re worth it.
Fashionable Flats Perfect for: City breaks, Sunday lunch, Cannes.
I love Pigalle’s not least because they come in the largest range of heel heights from flats up to 120mm, so you can literally have a pair for every occasion.
The flats are particularly sought after – like these Pigalle spikes red patent flat pumps. Spikes give them a hint of edginess, but you’ll still be able to run for the D&G sale should the need arise.
If you like those, you’ll fall head over heels for Louboutin’s colour pop sneakers. The Louis Spikes Patent Leather Hightop Sneakers are what high-top wet dreams are made of. They are also an absolute steal at £299, as the original price for these beauties was £1,000. Serious.
If you like your flats with a platform these Cataclou in wedge sandals in black suede and gold or multicoloured cork are practical and stylish. They’re 60mm at the heel and 30mm at the toe so you still have some height. Flatforms are having a moment, but this classic style is totally timeless.
Kitten Heels: 45mm – 60mm – 70mm Perfect for: Absolutely anywhere, any time, with anyone.
Let me introduce you to your new obsession. When Louboutin brings out a pair of kitten heels they are always a success story – like these super rare 45mm ‘Spike Me’ patent PVC pumps. These shoes will take you from dusk til dawn comfortably.
If Louboutin’s pvc see-through spikes are your party animal shoes, these adorable Door Knock Studded Pink Suede Pumps are your good girl equivalent. They are just made for lunch with the in-laws or brunch with the girls. If you want to add a little more height, Louboutin’s Escarpic spikes come with 70mm heels and full on sass.
85mm Perfect for: Business babes, the school run, speed dating.
A slick 85mm high heel ticks all the boxes. Meet your date, or your boss at eye level when you step into these babies. This pair of round-toed Fifille pumps are in the immaculate condition you expect from our luxury designer resale brand. Another great example are these to-die-for Pigalle Spikes which I’ve managed to snap up in a fabulous mango colour which will add a colour pop to any outfit.
100mm Perfect for: Dinner and dancing, that important meeting.
Monsieur Louboutin is quoted as saying every woman should own at least one pair of 100mm heels. Like these classy, nude Tucsy’s, with just a hint of Bowie about them. At around four inches this height is feminine and indulgent, but still practical and level-headed. It’s been scientifically proven that these heels like these Miluna Sling-backs will actually get you that promotion at work. Fact. (probably.)
120mm Perfect for: Royalty and the VIP area at Libertine.
A cult classic, The Beyoncé of Louboutin’s. Many can’t handle a 120mm heel like So Kate but they remain, nevertheless, the sexiest heels on earth. You can’t go wrong with the ever-popular Very Prive, their rounded and peep-toe options give added comfort to the wearer, while the platform elongates your legs and can part crowds.
130mm Perfect for: Advanced level heel wearers, minor deities, Friday nights.
A 130mm heel speaks volumes. Styles such as the scalloped Hot Chick pumps are like gold-dust and come with arches higher than Arc de Triomphe. If you want to take it to the next level you may find the Bianca, at 140mm high, more comfortable to walk in due to their small platform.
150mm Perfect for: Your next music video, falling in love or the Moulin Rouge
Yes, heels like these Lady Peep Glitter Aquarium Horizons (fabulous name don’t you think?) are fantastically high. But honestly? They’re not as difficult to wear as you may think – due to the 60mm platform. Still, you’ll need to practise balancing before you strut your stuff in these bad boys.
160mm Perfect For: Thrill-seekers, go-getters, trendsetters.
Louboutin’s pieces de resistance – heels such as Daffodile and Highness are a feet (get it?) of shoe engineering and are not for the faint-hearted.
I love this height – to me the higher the heels the closer to Heaven. You all know how much I love animal print – these Highness leopard print peep-toes will have you purring with pleasure. 😊
These hand-painted python and pony hair ZouLou’s are game-changers. Here’s the secret – the two-inch platform brings your heel-height down by a third while still maintaining the illusion that you are a real-life Victoria’s Secret model.
The beauty of buying from us here at High Heel Hierarchy is that we sell authentic luxury designer shoes for less…much less…sometimes 70% less than the original retail price.
That means you can buy a couple of heel heights to see which are best for you. You can even come to our HQ for a personal shopping experience with yours truly.
Shopping for preloved designer shoes also means that you’ll find classic and rare styles which are often no longer available through other retailers on the high street. It’s a total win.
